In 1850, Jesuit missionaries from Wikwemikong worked with the First Nation people of this region. Later the Jesuit Fathers came to Blind River from Massey and Sudbury. Ste. Famille Church was founded in 1898. Two years later, Father Lucien Brault, SJ, was named pastor of this church which, at the time, served both the French and English population.
The first church building ws erected in 1903. Three years later, the Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie assumed responsibility for Ste. Famille. In 1908, at the request of Father Jean Carrere, the Filles de la Sagesse were sent to the parish with two distinct missions: to teach at the new bilingual separate school and to help at the parish in any way they could.
In 1929, Father Origene Dufresne undertook the expansion of the church and in 1947, the English sector of the parish founded their own parish which they named St. James the Greater.
In 1970, Father Fernand Forest had the rectory demolished and replaced with a pre-fabricated house. In 1974 the church was also demolished, under the supervision of Fr. Atchee Leclair, and a prefabricated building ws installed. The building was originally designed to serve as both chuch and parish hall. Today it is a place of worship only.
