From Mgr. Roch Martin, Vicar Gral. And Moderator of the Curia. S.S.Marie Diocese March , 2022 UPDATED MAY 15,2022 The latest Decree from Bishop Dowd has taken into consideration the current provincial changes concerning pandemic protocols while moving ahead with caution for the safety of everyone. These are some of the changes: Churches may open at full capacity-- Contact tracing lists are no longer required -- Use of holy water fonts is permissible-- Congregational singing is permissible-- Masks are not required to participate in church services/celebrations-- Given the proximity, masks must be worn by both the priest and the penitent when using the confessional. Eucharistic ministers must continue to wear masks when distributing communion. A parish may require that masks be worn by children and catechists during children's liturgy Physical distancing is strongly encouraged and should be maintained whenever possible. Receptions for funerals may take place in churches and halls, as before pandemic. T he following measures still remain in effect: At all times, Communion may only be given under the form of bread, not under both species. Hand sanitizer should continue to be available for parishioner use and comfort. Let’s be mindful of parishioners who may feel uncomfortable with the latest changes and may need time to gradually become at ease with the new measures.
